The Cross Barracks Museum

The Cross Barracks Museum in Vidin is one of the city’s most distinctive historical buildings, known for its unusual floor plan that resembles a cross when viewed from above. Built in the early 19th century as an Ottoman military barracks, it later served various administrative roles before becoming a museum dedicated to Vidin’s cultural and military past. Its thick stone walls, arched corridors and symmetrical wings give the building a solemn, fortress‑like character. Inside, visitors can explore exhibitions that trace Vidin’s role as a strategic Danube stronghold. One of the most interesting sections displays weapons, uniforms and documents from the period when Vidin was a key Ottoman military centre.
