Chudomir Literary and Art Museum
Chudomir Literary and Art Museum is one of Kazanlak’s most delightful cultural stops, dedicated to the life and work of Dimitar Chorbadzhijski—better known as Chudomir—whose sharp humor and warm storytelling made him a beloved figure in Bulgarian literature. The museum is housed in his former home, a cozy Revival‑style building that preserves the atmosphere in which he wrote his satirical sketches and created his distinctive drawings. Inside, visitors can explore Chudomir’s study, kept almost exactly as he left it: his writing desk, personal library, and everyday objects that reveal his disciplined yet playful character. The museum holds an impressive archive of his manuscripts, letters, and original illustrations, many of which show his talent for capturing ordinary people with wit and affection. A highlight is the collection of his caricatures—simple lines, expressive faces, and a gentle irony that still feels fresh. The art section displays Chudomir’s watercolors and ink drawings, offering a glimpse into his visual imagination. Temporary exhibitions often feature contemporary artists or writers inspired by his legacy, keeping the space lively and relevant.
Kazanlak Bulgaria
You will find it at Trapezitsa Street 6, 6100 Kazanlak, Bulgaria. It is right in the central part of town, in the former house of Dimitar Chorbadzhiyski - Chudomir, which is declared an architectural monument of national significance. The house keeps more than fifteen thousand of his original manuscripts, letters, sketches and personal belongings, with a nice garden around it where locals like to sit. Its location is very convenient for sightseeing. Just a few minutes on foot you reach the Historical Museum Iskra at P. R. Slaveykov 8, one of the oldest museums in Bulgaria with Thracian and Revival collections, and the Art Gallery on St. Cyril and Methodius Street. The Museum of Photography and Contemporary Visual Arts and the library Iskra are also nearby. Walking a bit further you come to Rosarium Park with the modern Museum of Roses, dedicated to rose oil production, and the Kulata Ethnographic Complex in the Kulata district, showing old town and village lifestyle. Up the hill is Tyulbe Park with the replica and the original Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The main square, cafes and small shops are all close by, so from Chudomir Museum you can easily continue a relaxed cultural tour of the whole center without needing transport.
