Historical Museum “Iskra” in Kazanlak is one of Bulgaria’s most fascinating regional museums, celebrated for its deep connection to the Valley of the Thracian Kings. Founded in 1901, it preserves over 50,000 artifacts that trace local life from prehistory to the Bulgarian Revival, making it an essential stop for anyone exploring Kazanlak’s cultural landscape. Its most remarkable treasures come from the Thracian period. The museum safeguards original finds from nearby tombs and royal mounds, including gold ornaments, weaponry, ceramics, and ritual objects that reveal the sophistication of the Odrysian kingdom. Location

The Historical Museum Iskra is the main museum of Kazanlak and sits right in the center of town, so you will find it easily while walking around. You will find it at P. R. Slaveykov 8, 6100 Kazanlak, Bulgaria. It is located on the central pedestrian area, close to the main square and the city park. The museum was founded back in 1901 and is one of the oldest in Bulgaria, keeping everything from Thracian treasures to Revival period history and rose oil traditions. Its central spot makes it perfect for combining with other sights. Right next to it you have the Library Iskra and the Museum of Photography and Contemporary Visual Arts. A few minutes away is the famous Museum of Roses, dedicated to the Valley of Roses and the rose oil production that Kazanlak is known for all over the world. Very close by is also the Kulata Ethnographic Complex and the house-museum of composer Petko Staynov. If you walk a bit further you reach the central park Tyulbeto and the copy of the Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, while the original tomb is just outside town. The Art Gallery next door and many small shops and cafes around Slaveykov Street make this area a nice place to spend half a day exploring culture and history.
