Perast Town Museum
Perast Town Museum is a refined window into the Adriatic world, housed in a Baroque palace that once belonged to one of Perast’s noble families. Though small, it captures the essence of a town that produced skilled sailors, shipbuilders, and diplomats during its long association with the Venetian Republic. Every room reflects Perast’s maritime pride and its role as a cultural centre on the Bay of Kotor. Inside, the museum’s most compelling displays include maritime instruments and navigational charts used by local captains who sailed as far as the Mediterranean’s eastern ports. A collection of weapons and uniforms illustrates how Perast’s men defended the bay, often serving in elite Venetian units. The family archives—portraits, letters, and seals—offer an intimate look at daily life, trade, and diplomacy. The museum also preserves archaeological finds from nearby islands, including early Christian objects that trace the town’s spiritual beginnings. Traditional costumes and silverwork highlight Perast’s craftsmanship, adding a decorative flourish to the historical narrative.

The Perast Town Museum sits in the elegant Bujović Palace on Obala Marka Martinovića, right along the waterfront of the small town of Perast in the Bay of Kotor. This baroque palace, built in the late seventeenth century, now houses a collection dedicated to the town’s seafaring past, with model ships, portraits of captains, navigational instruments and historical documents. Just a short stroll along the promenade brings you to the Church of St. Nicholas with its tall bell tower, one of the most recognisable landmarks in the bay. From the waterfront you can catch a boat out to the artificial island of Our Lady of the Rocks, home to a small church and museum of its own. Other historic palaces and stone houses line the narrow streets rising behind the museum, and the views across the bay towards the opposite shore are hard to beat. Everything is close together in this compact little town, so after visiting the museum you can wander the waterfront, visit the church or take a short boat ride to the island without any rush, soaking up the quiet baroque atmosphere of Perast.
