Gjon Mili Museum in Korçë celebrates the life and work of Gjon Mili, the Albanian‑American photographer who revolutionised the use of light in photography. Set inside a restored traditional house, the museum blends local architectural charm with a modern, minimalist exhibition style that mirrors Mili’s own artistic clarity. It offers an intimate look at a man whose experiments with stroboscopic light and motion became iconic in mid‑20th‑century visual culture. Inside, the most captivating section is the gallery of Mili’s light‑painting photographs, including his famous collaborations with Pablo Picasso. These images, reproduced with exceptional quality, reveal how Mili captured movement as luminous traces in the air. Visitors can also explore his portraits of musicians, dancers, and actors—moments where gesture, rhythm, and light merge into a single expressive frame.

Location

The Gjon Mili Museum is right in the pedestrian heart of Korçë, so you will walk past it naturally while exploring the center. You will find it at Rruga Konferenca e Pezës, off Bulevardi Shën Gjergji, Korçë, Albania, inside the bright yellow building known as the Romanian House. It is dedicated to Gjon Mili, one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century who was born in Korçë, and it shows around 240 of his famous photos. Because it sits on the main boulevard, everything else is close by. Right around the corner is the National Museum of Education, the first Albanian language school, and a few steps further you have the Archaeological Museum on Rruga Mihal Grameno. If you continue toward the southeast side of the city you reach Bulevardi Fan Noli where two other must-see museums are: the National Museum of Medieval Art with its incredible icons collection and the Bratko Museum of Oriental Art. Close to the museum you also have the big Orthodox Cathedral of the Resurrection and the Old Bazaar with its cafes, restaurants and little shops, perfect for a break after the visit.
