The Church of Sts. Cyril and Methodius is one of Prilep’s youngest historic churches, yet it carries deep cultural symbolism. Dedicated to the two brothers who created the Slavic alphabet, the church stands as a tribute to literacy, identity, and the region’s long tradition of scholarship. Built in the early 20th century, its architecture blends revival‑style stonework with a tall, elegant bell tower that anchors the neighbourhood skyline. Inside, visitors find a bright and harmonious interior. The iconostasis, carved from pale wood, features icons of the two saints holding the Glagolitic script—an image rarely seen in local churches. The frescoes are modern but richly symbolic, illustrating scenes from the brothers’ missionary journeys and their role in shaping Slavic Christian culture. A small collection of liturgical books highlights the church’s educational mission. Some volumes are handwritten, others printed in early Cyrillic typefaces, offering a glimpse into how the script evolved. Soft light enters through high windows, illuminating the icons and giving the space a calm, scholarly atmosphere.

The Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius is an impressive 20th-century Orthodox landmark located at Arhiepiskop Dositej 33 in Prilep, North Macedonia. Built between 1926 and 1936, the church features a distinct cross-shaped architectural design and holds significant historical value, including a crypt beneath the temple that serves as a memorial for soldiers from World War I.
