The Church of the Holy Annunciation is one of Prilep’s most graceful historic churches, tucked into a quiet corner of the old town. Built in the 19th century, it reflects the architectural style of the Macedonian revival period, with a modest stone exterior that contrasts beautifully with the richly decorated interior. Its wooden porch and small bell tower give the church a warm, intimate character that has made it a beloved neighbourhood landmark. Inside, visitors are greeted by a vibrant iconostasis carved from dark wood and filled with icons painted by local masters. The colours remain strikingly fresh, revealing delicate facial expressions and fine gold detailing. Several icons are noted for their unusual composition, blending traditional Byzantine forms with local artistic influences. The church also preserves a collection of liturgical objects—silver crosses, embroidered vestments, and old gospel books—that offer a glimpse into Prilep’s religious life during Ottoman times.

The Church of the Holy Annunciation, often known locally as the Old Church, is a magnificent 19th-century Orthodox landmark in North Macedonia. You can find it right in the center of town at Republikanska 12, Prilep. Built in 1838, the church is widely celebrated for its peaceful atmosphere, intricate wood-carved iconostasis, and remarkable collection of historic icons. Its central location makes it a great starting point for exploring the rest of the city's sights. A short stroll brings you straight into the bustling Old Bazaar and past the iconic 19th-century Clock Tower in the central square. Nearby museum options are plentiful, including the Icons Gallery housed inside the local museum complex, the Memorial Museum 11th October, and the Kuzman Josifoski-Pitu Memorial Museum, all located within comfortable walking distance. A quick trip across town leads to the specialized Tobacco Museum, which highlights the area's agricultural history, and the Park of the Revolution, home to the striking Mound of the Undefeated memorial. Perched on the granite hills just to the north, you can easily visit Markovi Kuli, the medieval castle fortress offering ancient stone ruins and sweeping valley views, as well as the historic Monastery of Saint Archangel Michael tucked into the rocks of the Varoš neighborhood.
