Church of St. Panteleimon
Church of St. Panteleimon in Veles is a graceful hilltop landmark overlooking the Vardar River, known for its serene atmosphere and elegant blend of medieval inspiration and modern craftsmanship. Veles North Macedonia
The Church of St. Panteleimon is the main cathedral church of Veles and one of the most impressive landmarks in the city skyline. It is located high on a terrace on the west bank of the Vardar River, in the southern part of the old town at Veles 1400, North Macedonia. The church was built in 1840 by the famous master builder Andrej Damjanov and his brothers, and today it is the cathedral of the Povardarie Diocese. Because it sits on a hill, you get a beautiful panoramic view over Veles from the churchyard, and its big three-aisle basilica with frescoes and columns dominates the area. You are right in the historic core here, so there is a lot nearby. Just below the church is the old stone bridge and the Dormition of the Theotokos Church, another old Orthodox church. A short walk north brings you to the Veles Clock Tower, the symbol of the city, and the charming Varnalii quarter with traditional houses. Within five to ten minutes you also reach the National Museum of Veles, the Likoven Salon art gallery, the Jordan Hadzi Konstantinov-Dzinot Theatre, and the Memorial Houses of Kocho Racin and Jordan Hadzi-Konstantinov Dzinot. The area around the church is quiet and perfect for combining history, religion and a nice city view.
