Royal Hampshire Regiment Museum

The Royal Hampshire Regiment Museum, set within the historic Peninsula Barracks in Winchester, offers a vivid and personal look at more than 250 years of regimental history. Though compact, it is densely packed with stories of courage, tradition and everyday life in one of Britain’s most distinguished county regiments. One of the most compelling features is the extensive medal collection, including several Victoria Crosses awarded for extraordinary bravery. Each medal is accompanied by the soldier’s story, giving the display a powerful human dimension. The museum also preserves beautifully embroidered regimental colours, ceremonial silver and rare uniforms that trace the evolution of military dress from the 18th century to modern times. A highlight for many visitors is the recreated First World War trench section, complete with original equipment that conveys the harsh realities faced by Hampshire soldiers on the Western Front. The Second World War galleries explore campaigns in North Africa, Italy and Burma, supported by maps, diaries and personal artefacts donated by veterans and their families.
