Ponte Isabella
Ponte Isabella is one of Turin’s most graceful nineteenth‑century bridges, spanning the Po River with an elegance that reflects the city’s architectural refinement. Completed in the 1880s and named in honour of Princess Isabella of Savoy, it was designed during a period of urban expansion that sought to connect the centre with the rising districts along the riverbanks. Its stone arches, decorative details, and harmonious proportions create a picturesque silhouette that blends naturally with the surrounding landscape, especially the green slopes of the nearby hills. The bridge offers some of the most charming views of the river, making it a favourite spot for walkers, cyclists, and photographers. Today, Ponte Isabella remains both a functional crossing and a serene scenic landmark, embodying Turin’s ability to combine history, beauty, and everyday life.
Turin ItalyPonte Isabella, also known as Ponte Principessa Isabella, is a historic iron bridge spanning the Po River on the southern edge of central Turin, linking Corso Dante Alighieri in the San Salvario district with Corso Moncalieri on the river’s eastern bank. It sits at the southern end of Parco del Valentino, giving direct access to the park’s riverside promenades and paths, while on the opposite bank are the elegant villas and tree-lined Lung Po in the Borgo Po area. Nearby attractions include the green expanse of Parco del Valentino with its Borgo Medievale and Castello del Valentino slightly upstream, as well as rowing clubs and boat docks along the Po, all within an easy walk or tram ride from the historic centre.
