Comb of the Wind, or Peine del Viento, is one of San Sebastián’s most powerful and poetic landmarks, blending art, landscape, and the force of the sea into a single experience. Created by sculptor Eduardo Chillida in collaboration with architect Luis Peña Ganchegui, the installation anchors the western end of La Concha Bay, where the city meets the open ocean. Three massive iron sculptures are embedded into the natural rocks, their curved forms shaped to “comb” the wind and channel the crashing waves. The setting is dramatic: salt spray, shifting light, and the constant roar of the Cantabrian Sea turn the site into a living performance. Visitors often linger to watch water surge through the nearby blowholes, adding sound and movement to the artwork. More than a sculpture, Comb of the Wind is a dialogue between nature and human creativity, offering one of the most atmospheric and unforgettable viewpoints in San Sebastián.

The Comb of the Wind (Peine del Viento), a renowned sculpture by Eduardo Chillida, is located at the western end of La Concha Bay in Donostia–San Sebastián, embedded in rocks at the far end of Ondarreta Beach and at the foot of Monte Igueldo. This iconic site features three massive steel sculptures interacting with the sea and wind, alongside blowholes that dramatically release water during high tides. Nearby, visitors can stroll along the scenic Paseo de Ondarreta promenade, relax on Ondarreta Beach itself, explore the Miramar Palace gardens just to the east, or take the funicular up Monte Igueldo for panoramic views, with the city centre and La Concha Beach reachable by a pleasant coastal walk.
