Rovaniemi Church, completed in 1950 after the destruction of its predecessor in the Lapland War, is one of the city’s most recognisable post‑war landmarks. Designed by architect Bertel Liljequist, the stone‑built church combines clean reconstruction‑era lines with a warm, serene interior dominated by Lennart Segerstråle’s monumental fresco The Source of Life, completed in 1951. The church seats several hundred worshippers and is known for its excellent acoustics, enhanced by its large organ, making it a popular venue for concerts as well as regular services. Its exterior is marked by a distinctive red‑lit cross on the roof, a symbolic feature that has become a familiar element of Rovaniemi’s skyline. Set close to the city centre, the church offers a peaceful space for reflection and remains an important gathering place for the local community. Today it stands as both a spiritual home and a cultural monument, reflecting the resilience and renewal of Rovaniemi after the war.
