Koivusaari Nature Trail offers a peaceful slice of riverside nature just a short distance from Rovaniemi’s city centre, unfolding across the low sand islands of the Ounasjoki delta. This easy duckboard route circles Koivusaari Island, guiding visitors through fertile shoreline meadows, quiet flood‑prone wetlands, and habitats rich in birdlife. In summer, sheep graze the open fields, maintaining the traditional landscape once used as pasture until the 1960s. Information boards along the path share the island’s history, including the temporary railway that crossed it in the late 1940s, while a floating bird‑watching tower provides a calm vantage point over the delta.
