The Statue of Schöner Náci is one of Bratislava’s most charming landmarks, honoring Ignác Lamár, a beloved figure known for his elegant attire and warm greetings. Dressed in a tailcoat and top hat, Schöner Náci was a familiar presence in the city’s cafés and promenades during the early 20th century, greeting passersby with a smile and the phrase, “I kiss your hand.” His statue, created by Juraj Meliš, stands near Mayer Café in the Old Town, capturing his signature gesture of tipping his hat. Schöner Náci’s life was marked by hardship, yet he remained a symbol of kindness and joy. His remains were moved to Ondrejský Cemetery in 2007, ensuring his legacy lives on in Bratislava’s history. Today, visitors often stop to take photos with the statue, making it one of the city’s most photographed monuments.
