Ship-museum 'Sūduvis'

The ship‑museum Sūduvis in Klaipėda offers a rare chance to step aboard a real Lithuanian Navy minesweeper and explore the daily world of its former crew. Built in the 1950s in Germany and later acquired by Lithuania, the vessel served for decades as a mine‑hunting ship in the Baltic Sea, using sonar, divers and specialised equipment to detect and neutralise naval mines. Today it is permanently moored in Klaipėda and preserved as a floating museum, allowing visitors to walk through spaces normally closed to the public. Inside, the narrow corridors, metal stairways and compact cabins reveal how sailors lived and worked in demanding conditions. The bridge still holds original navigation instruments, communication devices and charts that guided the ship through complex missions. In the operations room, visitors can see mine‑detection consoles and learn how the crew coordinated search patterns at sea. The engine room, with its dense network of pipes and machinery, shows the technical heart of the vessel. Together, these spaces create an immersive portrait of Cold War‑era naval life and Lithuania’s maritime heritage.
