The Ethnographic Seaside Fisherman’s Homestead in Klaipėda offers an intimate look at the traditional life of coastal fishermen who shaped the region’s identity for centuries. Set within a restored wooden homestead typical of the Curonian coast, the site preserves the rhythms, tools and domestic spaces of a community deeply tied to the sea. Its architecture, with steep roofs and weathered timber, reflects the practical needs of families who lived with storms, shifting sands and long fishing seasons. Inside, visitors can explore authentic living quarters furnished with handmade furniture, woven textiles and household items that reveal how families cooked, worked and gathered. The net‑mending room displays tools used to prepare and repair fishing gear, while the storage areas contain traps, floats and boats that once served in the Baltic’s demanding waters. Particularly striking is the exhibition of traditional clothing and ritual objects, showing how fishermen balanced daily labour with cultural traditions. The homestead offers a quiet, atmospheric window into a way of life that has nearly disappeared, preserving the spirit of Lithuania’s coastal heritage.
