Pranas Domšaitis Gallery in Klaipėda is a vibrant cultural space dedicated to one of Lithuania’s most distinctive modernist painters. One of the most interesting aspects is how the gallery presents the artist’s journey—from his early studies in Königsberg to his later years in South Africa—showing how displacement and identity shaped his art. The gallery also hosts rotating exhibitions of contemporary Lithuanian and international artists, making it an active centre for modern visual culture. Location

The Pranas Domšaitis Gallery is located in the central part of Klaipėda, in western Lithuania. It’s set in two 19th-century buildings on Liepų Street and is a branch of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art. The gallery is named after Pranas Domšaitis, an expressionist painter born in Lithuania Minor who spent much of his life in Germany and South Africa. The gallery is a short walk from Klaipėda’s Old Town. You can reach Theatre Square with its Ännchen von Tharau fountain and German-style fachwerk houses in about 10 minutes. The Museum of Clocks is right across the street, making it easy to combine both. Also close are the Castle Museum and Klaipėda Castle remains by the Danė River, the Meridianas sailing ship, and the Old Port. From the ferry terminal, take a quick ride to Smiltynė on the Curonian Spit for the Lithuanian Sea Museum, Dolphinarium, and the beaches of the national park. The gallery’s central spot makes it a calm cultural stop between Klaipėda’s maritime sights.
