Herz Jesu in Bregenz is one of the most impressive neo‑Gothic churches in Vorarlberg, instantly recognisable by its twin spires rising above the city. Completed in 1908, it was built during a period of Catholic revival, and its scale reflects the ambition of a growing community. The church is dedicated to the Sacred Heart, a devotion especially strong in the region, which gives the building both its name and its symbolic focus. Inside, the atmosphere is defined by soaring vertical lines, colourful ribbed vaults, and a rich interplay of light through tall stained‑glass windows. These windows depict scenes from the life of Christ and local saints, adding narrative depth to the interior. The high altar, carved from dark wood and crowned with intricate pinnacles, is a highlight of Vorarlberg craftsmanship. Visitors also notice the side chapels, each with its own sculptural programme, and the impressive organ, known for its warm, resonant sound during concerts.
