Nepomukkapelle

Nepomukkapelle in Bregenz is a small yet striking Baroque chapel dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk, the patron saint of bridges and protectors against floods. Built in the mid‑18th century near the old harbour area, it once served as a spiritual safeguard for sailors and fishermen on Lake Constance. Its elegant façade, with soft curves and delicate stucco, reflects the late Baroque style that was flourishing in the region at the time. Inside, the chapel feels intimate and atmospheric. The central feature is the beautifully crafted altar with a statue of St. John of Nepomuk, shown with his characteristic halo of five stars. The interior decoration includes pastel‑coloured stucco work, gentle gilding, and small devotional paintings that highlight the saint’s life and martyrdom. Despite its modest size, the chapel’s acoustics and warm light give it a serene, contemplative character.
