Landskron Castle rises above Villach as a dramatic medieval ruin with one of Carinthia’s most impressive panoramas. First mentioned in the 14th century, it became a powerful stronghold of the Khevenhüller family, who transformed it into a grand Renaissance residence. A devastating fire in 1812 left the complex in ruins, but its commanding silhouette survived, turning the site into a beloved landmark. Visitors today can explore the atmospheric courtyards, surviving walls, and terraces that open onto sweeping views of the Ossiacher See and the surrounding Alps. The castle is also known for its Eagle Arena, where daily bird‑of‑prey demonstrations highlight centuries‑old falconry traditions.
