Croatian National Theatre Mostar is one of the city’s most important cultural institutions, known for its dynamic repertoire and its role in revitalising Mostar’s artistic life after the war. Founded in 1994, it became the first professional Croatian theatre in Bosnia and Herzegovina, giving local actors, directors and playwrights a dedicated stage during a period of rebuilding and cultural renewal. One of the most interesting facts is that the theatre operates in a modern, multifunctional building designed to support both classical and contemporary productions. Its main hall features excellent acoustics and adaptable staging, allowing performances ranging from drama and comedy to dance, concerts and children’s theatre. The venue also hosts festivals and guest ensembles from across the region, making it a lively crossroads of artistic exchange. Inside, visitors can explore the foyer’s small exhibitions, often showcasing costumes, set designs or photographs from past productions. The theatre’s costume workshop and backstage areas reveal the craftsmanship behind each performance—hand‑sewn garments, painted props and intricate stage mechanisms that bring stories to life.

The theater is located at Kneza Domagoja bb, 88000, Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is situated in a lively, modern urban part of the city, just a short distance northwest of the older historic districts. Because the theater sits close to the central transit and commercial zones, you can easily walk or take a quick drive to Mostar’s primary historic attractions. Heading slightly southeast brings you directly to the Spanish Square and the grand, Austro-Hungarian era Gymnasium building. A short stroll further down the streets leads you to the elegant Muslibegović House, a beautifully preserved seventeenth-century Ottoman residential palace museum. From there, you can continue into the old town to cross the world-famous Stari Most, explore the medieval Old Bridge Museum built into the Tara Tower, or visit the historic exhibits at the Herzegovina Museum and the Museum of War and Genocide Victims.
