Museum of the Second Session of AVNOJ

The Museum of the Second Session of AVNOJ in Jajce is one of Bosnia’s most important historical landmarks, preserving the room where Yugoslavia’s new federal structure was proclaimed on 29 November 1943. Set inside a solid Austro‑Hungarian building, the museum offers a rare opportunity to stand in the exact space where delegates shaped the future of the post‑war state. The hall remains arranged almost exactly as it was during the session, with long wooden tables, nameplates, and the original stage layout. Inside, visitors can explore exhibits that trace the political and military context of the Second World War. Photographs, documents, and personal items belonging to the delegates reveal how complex the negotiations were. One of the most interesting facts is that many displayed objects—microphones, flags, and furniture—are original, carefully preserved since the 1940s. A separate gallery presents the broader story of Jajce as a wartime centre, including maps, propaganda posters, and archival footage. The museum also highlights the multicultural composition of the AVNOJ delegates, illustrating how different regions contributed to the formation of the new federation.
