Franjevački Muzej in Jajce is one of the town’s most atmospheric cultural spaces, housed within the historic Franciscan monastery near the church of St. Mary and the iconic bell tower. Its collection offers a quiet but compelling journey through Jajce’s religious, artistic and intellectual heritage, shaped by centuries of Franciscan presence in central Bosnia. Inside, visitors can explore a rich assortment of sacred art: illuminated manuscripts, liturgical books, chalices, reliquaries and finely crafted vestments that reveal the monastery’s long scholarly tradition. One of the most interesting facts is that the museum preserves rare documents written by local friars who recorded political events, natural disasters and everyday life, making the collection an invaluable historical archive. The ethnographic section displays traditional household items, tools and textiles that show how local communities lived alongside the monastery.
