Ethnographic Museum Burgas

The Ethnographic Museum in Burgas is housed in a beautifully preserved 19th‑century Revival‑era home, once belonging to a wealthy local family. Its wooden balconies, stone foundations, and painted façade set the tone for what awaits inside: a vivid journey through the traditions, crafts, and daily life of the Strandzha and Black Sea regions. Inside, the museum’s most captivating feature is its collection of traditional costumes. Each garment tells a story—wedding dresses heavy with silver ornaments, men’s outfits embroidered with protective symbols, and coastal attire influenced by maritime trade. The Strandzha costumes, known for their bold colors and layered aprons, are among the highlights. Another interesting section showcases household objects that once filled local homes: carved chests, copper cookware, wool blankets, and delicate lacework. These items reveal how families lived before industrialization, relying on craftsmanship and natural materials. The recreated living room, complete with a low hearth and wooden ceiling beams, feels like stepping into a Burgas home from a century ago.
