PlanetUm in Burgas is one of the city’s newest cultural attractions, designed as a playful gateway into science, technology, and immersive learning. Housed in a sleek contemporary building near the Sea Garden, it combines museum‑style exhibits with hands‑on experiences that appeal to both children and adults. The concept follows the idea of “edutainment,” blending education with interactive fun. Inside, visitors can explore themed zones dedicated to physics, astronomy, ecology, and digital creativity. One of the most interesting features is the augmented‑reality sandbox, where shifting the sand reshapes virtual landscapes in real time. The robotics corner showcases small programmable machines that demonstrate how automation works in everyday life. PlanetUm also includes a compact planetarium dome, offering short shows about constellations, planetary motion, and Black Sea navigation traditions. Art and science meet in the hologram gallery, where 3D projections create illusions that challenge perception. Seasonal exhibitions often highlight Bulgarian inventors or global scientific milestones, making each visit slightly different.
Burgas Bulgaria
PlanetUm sits at the passenger dock in the harbour complex of Burgas Port, right on the long pier that stretches out into the Black Sea. It’s part of the Marine Station area, so once you’re at the port end of the pier you’ll find the science centre and its distinctive planetarium building without any trouble. A short three-minute walk takes you to the tip of the pier, where a pair of photogenic harbour lighthouses stand as classic local landmarks. The rest of the pier itself is right there for a leisurely stroll with open views across the bay. Just beyond the port zone the Sea Garden begins, bringing you to the Sea Casino cultural centre and the open-air Summer Theatre among the trees and paths. From there it’s an easy walk into the city centre, where the Archaeological Museum, Ethnographic Museum and Historical Museum sit close together, along with the State Opera, the Adriana Budevska Drama Theatre and the Saints Cyril and Methodius Cathedral. The whole area links naturally, so after exploring PlanetUm you can simply keep going along the waterfront or head inland at your own pace.
