Church of Saint Anthony is one of Gjakova’s most distinctive Catholic landmarks, a peaceful sanctuary that reflects the city’s long tradition of religious diversity. Its modest façade, crowned by a slender bell tower, stands out gently among the old bazaar’s Ottoman‑era buildings. Inside, visitors find a bright nave shaped by arches, wooden pews, and soft natural light. The main altar is one of the most interesting features, decorated with a statue of Saint Anthony that local families have venerated for generations. Several side chapels display paintings and devotional objects donated by the community, each carrying personal stories of faith and migration. The church also preserves a small collection of liturgical books and ceremonial items that survived periods of conflict, offering insight into the resilience of Gjakova’s Catholic community. The Church of Saint Anthony sits on Rruga e Katolikëve, known locally as Catholic Street, in Gjakova. It stands directly opposite the larger Church of Saints Paul and Peter, in the city’s Catholic neighbourhood, a short walk from the main roads leading toward the edge of town. Just across the street is the Church of Saints Paul and Peter with its tall twin towers. A short stroll takes you into the Old Bazaar and the Grand Bazaar area, where you’ll also find the Hadum Mosque and the Ethnographic Museum in its traditional Ottoman house. Other historic spots and quiet residential streets fill the same compact part of the city. Everything connects easily on foot, so after visiting the church you can simply continue exploring Gjakova’s bazaar, mosques and historic centre at a relaxed pace.
