Naval Heritage Collection Museum in Tivat is one of Montenegro’s most engaging maritime attractions, housed in a restored industrial building once used by the Yugoslav Navy. Its most striking feature is the enormous P‑821 Hero, a decommissioned submarine displayed outside the entrance. This vessel served for decades in coastal patrol missions and is now open for visitors, offering a rare chance to walk through its narrow corridors and see original equipment up close. Inside the museum, the story of the Bay of Kotor’s naval past unfolds through ship models, uniforms, navigational instruments, and archival photographs. One particularly interesting fact is the region’s long tradition of shipbuilding, represented by detailed wooden models and tools used in local shipyards. Exhibits also highlight the role of hydroplanes and torpedo boats that once operated from nearby bases. The museum’s upper galleries explore modern maritime technology and environmental themes, including the preservation of the Adriatic’s fragile ecosystems. Interactive displays allow visitors to test signalling devices, examine engine components, and learn how submarines maintain buoyancy.

The Naval Heritage Collection Museum in Tivat is one of those museums that even non-museum people enjoy, because it is right in the marina. It is located inside Porto Montenegro, at 1 Blaza Jovanovica Street, Porto Montenegro Promenade, 85320 Tivat, Montenegro. You just enter the marina complex from the main gate and follow the waterfront promenade, you will see the old submarine and the big white museum building right there on the water. This is the old Yugoslav naval heritage collection, with real submarines, ship equipment, old navy uniforms, models and all kinds of maritime history from the Boka Bay area. Right next to the museum you have the whole Porto Montenegro luxury marina itself to walk around, with cafes, shops and yachts. A five minute walk from the museum brings you to the center of Tivat and to Gradski Park, the big botanical park with huge old trees. Inside that park you will find Buca-Lukovic Museum and Gallery, a 16th century fortified summer house and palace that is now a museum and open-air gallery. Just next to it is the PI Museum and Gallery Tivat at Culture Square 2, the main town museum with archaeological finds and traditional costumes. If you want a bit more, you can take a short drive to Gornja Lastva village to see old stone architecture and the old Buca Palace, or hop on a boat to Our Lady of Mercy Island.
