Volkssterrenwacht Mira, located in Grimbergen near Brussels, is Belgium’s oldest public observatory and a dynamic hub for astronomy enthusiasts of all ages. Founded in 1967, it offers hands-on access to the cosmos through telescopes, solar observation instruments, and interactive exhibits spread across three floors. Visitors can explore celestial phenomena, experiment with scientific models, and attend multimedia presentations, lectures, and stargazing evenings. Mira also features a weather station and a rich library of astronomical resources. Open to individuals on Wednesdays and Sundays, and to groups by appointment, it’s a welcoming gateway to the wonders of the universe.

Volkssterrenwacht Mira is located at Abdijstraat 22, 1850 Grimbergen, just a short distance from Brussels. This public observatory, founded in 1967 and affiliated with Grimbergen Abbey, is a hub for astronomy enthusiasts and curious visitors alike. Inside, visitors can explore a vast exhibition, experiment with interactive displays, and view one of Belgium’s largest collections of astronomical instruments. The observatory features two fixed telescope domes, a solar telescope, and a weather station, providing opportunities for both daytime solar observations and nighttime stargazing during special events. Nearby, the scenic Grimbergen Abbey offers a historic and cultural backdrop, along with the surrounding picturesque Flemish Brabant region.
