The Schack-Galerie in Munich, officially known as the Sammlung Schack, is a distinguished museum dedicated to German painting of the 19th century. Founded by Count Adolf Friedrich von Schack, a poet and art patron, the collection showcases evocative works from the Late Romantic period, including masterpieces by Arnold Böcklin, Franz von Lenbach, and Moritz von Schwind. Housed in a neoclassical building on Prinzregentenstraße, the gallery invites visitors into a world of myth, longing, and idealism, with paintings that explore dreamlike landscapes and literary themes. The collection remains largely unchanged since Schack’s death in 1894, preserving his vision of promoting young, overlooked artists. Today, the Schack-Galerie offers a unique cultural experience, blending historical depth with artistic imagination, and occasionally features select works from the Neue Pinakothek, enriching its already captivating display.
