The Angel of Peace (Friedensengel) in Munich is a striking monument in the Maximiliansanlagen park, marking 25 years of peace after the Franco‑Prussian War. Inaugurated in 1899, it features a 38‑metre Corinthian column topped by a six‑metre gilded figure, a replica of the ancient Greek goddess Nike, holding an olive branch for peace and a figure of Athena for wisdom and strength. Beneath the column stands a small temple adorned with gold mosaics depicting war, victory, peace, and cultural blessings, alongside portraits of notable rulers and statesmen. From the terrace, visitors enjoy sweeping views along Prinzregentenstraße towards landmarks like the Bavarian National Museum. At the base, a fountain with playful cherubs riding dolphins adds charm, especially when illuminated at night.
