Pollok Country Park, Glasgow’s largest and only country park, spans 146 hectares of woodland, gardens, and open meadows along the White Cart Water. Once part of the Maxwell family’s Old Pollok Estate, it was gifted to the city in 1966 with the condition it remain public. The park is home to two of Glasgow’s cultural treasures: the grand Georgian Pollok House and the award-winning Burrell Collection, housing over 9,000 artworks and artefacts. Its network of walking and cycling trails weaves through ancient woodland, past walled gardens, and into open fields where the park’s famous Highland cattle graze. Recognised as Britain’s Best Park in 2007 and Best Park in Europe in 2008, Pollok offers a rare blend of heritage, art, and nature within minutes of the city centre.
