Zoo de Lyon
Nestled within Lyon’s Parc de la Tête d’Or, the Zoo de Lyon is one of France’s oldest zoological parks, founded in 1858. Covering nine hectares, it is home to more than 300 animals representing 66 species, from majestic giraffes and Asian lions to rare Amur leopards and gibbons. A highlight is the African Plain, a three-hectare habitat where zebras, antelopes, and Watusi cattle roam together, offering visitors a glimpse of the savannah in the heart of the cityLoisirs du parc de la Tête d'Or. Nearby inside the park are the Jardin botanique de Lyon (botanical garden), the Île du Souvenir war memorial on the lake, the Vacherie pavilion, and themed sculptures and alleys such as Parc aux Daims and Allée de l’Orangerie; just beyond the park lie the Rhône riverbanks, Place des Terreaux, the Musée des Beaux-Arts, and the historic Croix-Rousse district within 1–2 miles.
