Lac d’Annecy is a mountain lake in the Haute-Savoie department of eastern France, in the northern French Alps, with the city of Annecy sitting at its northern tip about 40 km south of Geneva. The lake lies between the Bornes and Bauges mountain ranges and is often described as one of Europe’s cleanest lakes, renowned for its clear waters and alpine scenery.​ Around its shores are lakeside towns and villages such as Annecy, Sévrier, Saint-Jorioz, Duingt, Talloires-Montmin, Menthon-Saint-Bernard and Veyrier-du-Lac, all linked by a scenic cycle path and lakeside road. Nearby attractions include beaches like Plage des Marquisats and Plage d’Albigny, boat cruises from Annecy, hiking and paragliding sites in the surrounding mountains such as Semnoz and La Tournette, and the medieval old town of Annecy with its canals and castle just steps from the waterfront.​
