The House of Heads is one of Colmar’s most remarkable Renaissance buildings, instantly recognizable by the 106 sculpted heads that adorn its façade. Built in 1609 for a wealthy wine merchant, the house reflects the prosperity of Alsace during the early 17th century. The carved faces, ranging from grotesque masks to expressive portraits, symbolize both the vitality of the city and the artistic imagination of its craftsmen. Above the entrance, a statue of the cooper added in the 1900s pays tribute to Colmar’s wine tradition, linking the building’s history to the region’s enduring identity.
