Parc du Champ de Mars

About

The Parc du Champ de Mars is Colmar’s central green space, a place where history and leisure meet. Laid out in the 19th century, the park was designed as a promenade for residents and visitors, offering wide alleys shaded by centuries-old trees. At its heart stands the imposing statue of General Rapp, a native of Colmar and hero of the Napoleonic era, which gives the park a strong historical identity. The Champ de Mars is also known for its lively atmosphere, hosting seasonal fairs, concerts, and community gatherings that bring the city together. Families enjoy its playgrounds and open lawns, while the elegant bandstand recalls the charm of Belle Époque entertainment. Surrounded by cafés and close to the old town, the park remains a favorite meeting point, blending relaxation, culture, and civic pride. It is both a tranquil retreat and a vibrant stage for Colmar’s daily life.
