Basilica di San Simpliciano
Basilica di San Simpliciano is one of Milan’s oldest Christian churches, founded in the late fourth century by Saint Ambrose as part of his plan to shape the city into a major spiritual centre. Dedicated to his successor, Saint Simplician, it is considered the second‑oldest church in Milan with a Latin‑cross layoutWikipedia. Its red‑brick Romanesque façade opens onto a quiet piazza in the Brera district, where the basilica has stood for more than 1,600 years. Inside, the atmosphere is shaped by early Christian foundations, medieval architecture and later artistic additions, including the celebrated frescoes by Bergognone that illuminate the nave.
