Porta Ticinese Medievale
Porta Ticinese Medievale is one of the last surviving gateways of Milan’s 12th‑century city walls, standing at the junction of Corso di Porta Ticinese and Via Edmondo de Amicis. Built in the Middle Ages and restored in 1861, the gate preserves its original Gothic structure with a tall central tower and merlon‑topped battlements, once overlooking the navigable moat that encircled the city. As one of only three remaining medieval gates, it offers a rare glimpse into the fortified Milan of the past. Today, the area around the gate is a vibrant cultural corridor, leading toward the Colonne di San Lorenzo and the lively Navigli district. Its blend of ancient architecture and contemporary street life makes Porta Ticinese Medievale a symbolic threshold between Milan’s historic identity and its creative urban energy.
