Arco della Pace
Arco della Pace is one of Milan’s most elegant neoclassical monuments, rising at the edge of Parco Sempione as a symbolic gateway to the city. Commissioned by Napoleon in 1807 as part of his grand urban vision, the arch was ultimately completed in 1838 to celebrate the coronation of Ferdinand I of Lombardy‑Venetia. Its sculptural reliefs, Corinthian columns and bronze chariot embody a blend of military ambition and European diplomacy, reflecting Milan’s shifting political landscape in the 19th century. Today, the arch anchors the lively Sempione district, where cafés and evening gatherings animate the piazza.
