Although the castle no longer survives in its original form, its story remains woven into the landscape. Its grounds were known for orchards, ponds, and a carefully planned garden that offered both beauty and protection. Today, only traces of the estate endure, yet the site still carries the atmosphere of a vanished world. Kasteel de Borght is located at Lakenmakersstraat 4-8, 2800 Mechelen, in the Nekkerspoel district surrounded by the Afleidingsdijle river and Nekkerhal parking, within a nearly 4-hectare estate featuring a moated neogothic castle built in 1860 on 15th-century foundations. This historic site, set for partial public park access by 2027, stands about 1km northeast of Mechelen’s city centre, close to landmarks including Nekkerhal (400m), Toy Museum Mechelen (340m), Basilica of Our Lady of Hanswijk (884m), Grote Markt (952m), Museum Hof van Busleyden (866m), Church of Our Lady of Leliendaal (945m), Kruidtuin botanical garden (809m), St. Peter and St. Paul Church (614m), Vismarkt square, Dijlepad paths, and pedestrian routes through the historic old town with shops and cafés.
