The Studio Home of the Heiska Family in Jyväskylä is a beautifully preserved artist’s residence that offers a rare glimpse into the everyday life and creative world of the Heiska family across two generations. Designed and built in 1912 by painter Jonas Heiska, the wooden house in the leafy Älylä district retains its original early‑20th‑century atmosphere, filled with artworks, photographs, books and personal belongings that reflect the family’s artistic pursuits. Jonas and his wife Maikki created a warm cultural home where music and visual arts intertwined, and their daughter Vappu later continued the family’s artistic legacy. After her passing in 1993, she bequeathed the house and its contents to the city, ensuring its preservation as a museum. Today, visitors can step into the light‑filled studio and intimate living spaces, experiencing the layered history of a home left just as its inhabitants lived it.
