Kuokkala Church in Jyväskylä is a striking contemporary landmark that brings together parish life, community functions and modern Finnish architecture in a single sculptural form. Completed in 2010 after a design competition won by OOPEAA, the church stands at the centre of the Kuokkala district, its dark slate‑clad exterior and granite detailing giving it a strong, recognisable presence. Inside, the atmosphere shifts to warm Nordic light, created by extensive use of Finnish spruce and a distinctive wooden gridshell ceiling that unifies the main spaces. The church hall and parish meeting hall can be combined into one large venue, supported by facilities for children, youth and community gatherings. Wooden furnishings and carefully crafted details echo historical church traditions while remaining firmly contemporary. As both a place of worship and a neighbourhood focal point, Kuokkala Church embodies a thoughtful balance of modern design, functionality and spiritual calm.

Kuokkala Church is located in the heart of Kuokkala district at Syöttäjänkatu 4, 40520 Jyväskylä, right in the middle of Kuokkala Square and surrounded by residential and low‑rise commercial buildings. The church stands close to the Kuokkala Bridge, which connects the Kuokkala and Lutakko districts and offers fine views over Lake Jyväsjärvi. Nearby, visitors can easily reach Lutakko Harbour with its promenade, cafés, and the popular swinging art installation “Keinuja” under the bridge, while the city centre with Kompassinaukio, the main shopping street Kauppakatu, and the central churches is just a short bus or walk away.
