Jyväskylä City Church stands at the heart of the city in Kirkkopuisto, a historic park that once served as Jyväskylä’s central market square. Completed in 1880 and designed by architect L. I. Lindqvist, it was the first stone church in Central Finland and replaced an earlier wooden church from the 18th century. Its red‑brick exterior combines neo‑Romanesque and neo‑Gothic features, while the interior is enriched by artworks such as the 1901 altarpiece Jesus blesses the children by Nina and Fredrik Ahlstedt. Over the decades, the church has been carefully restored, preserving stained‑glass windows, ceiling paintings and sculptures that reflect its long spiritual and cultural significance. Surrounded by the greenery of Church Park, it remains a beloved venue for services, concerts and weddings, offering a serene landmark in the city centre.
