Näyttelykeskus Soihtu in Jyväskylä is a vibrant exhibition centre where the history of the University of Jyväskylä meets Finnish modern art and contemporary museum storytelling. Located in the historic Seminarium building on the Seminaarinmäki campus, it presents the university’s development through its main exhibition, which explores the origins of the teacher seminary and the evolution of academic life. Alongside this, visitors can view the Tissari Art Collection, featuring works by key figures of Finnish modernism, adding an artistic dimension to the museum’s scientific and educational focus. The centre also hosts changing thematic exhibitions that highlight cultural heritage, student life and broader societal themes. With free admission and an inviting atmosphere that includes a museum shop, lounge areas and spaces for workshops, Soihtu offers an accessible and engaging window into the intellectual and cultural history of Jyväskylä.

Exhibition Centre Soihtu is located in the Seminaarinmäki area of Jyväskylä at Seminaarinkatu 15, in the S‑building on the University of Jyväskylä campus, 40100 Jyväskylä. The centre sits within the city’s historic Alvar Aalto–designed university campus, close to several of Aalto’s key buildings, lecture halls and the university’s main facilities. Nearby, visitors can easily reach the Museum of Central Finland, the Alvar Aalto Museum and other campus‑area museums, as well as the city‑centre streets and the Harju ridge with the Vesilinna observation tower, making it a natural stop for those exploring the city’s architecture and academic heritage on foot.
