Carolina Rediviva’s Exhibition Hall offers a refined and atmospheric introduction to Uppsala University Library’s most treasured objects, presented within one of the city’s most iconic buildings. The hall showcases highlights from a collection built over more than four centuries, including manuscripts, maps, and rare printed works that illuminate the history of knowledge and cultural exchange. Among its permanent centrepieces are the Codex Argenteus, a world‑famous illuminated manuscript, and the Carta Marina from 1539, the earliest reasonably accurate map of the Nordic region. The exhibition changes periodically, drawing from the library’s vast archives of manuscripts, images, sheet music, and historical documents. These displays trace the evolution of writing, printing, and scholarship, offering insight into how ideas have travelled and transformed across centuries.
