Linnaeus’ Hammarby is a beautifully preserved 18th‑century rural estate that offers an intimate look into the private world of Carl Linnaeus. Purchased in 1758 as a retreat from his busy life in Uppsala, the property became both a family home and a place for botanical study, surrounded by fields, orchards, and carefully tended gardens. The main house, with its original interiors, furniture, and personal objects, reflects the everyday life of the Linnaeus family and preserves the atmosphere of the Enlightenment era. Outside, the garden and surrounding landscape still follow Linnaeus’s ideas about cultivation and plant organisation, creating a living extension of his scientific work. Set amid rolling countryside southeast of Uppsala, Linnaeus’ Hammarby remains a serene cultural environment where history, nature, and science come together.

Linnaeus' Hammarby is located at Danmarks-Hammarby, approximately 15 kilometers southeast of central Uppsala, Sweden. As the former summer estate of Carl Linnaeus, this site offers a unique, well-preserved glimpse into the 18th-century rural life and scientific work of the famous botanist. The surrounding area is part of a cultural reserve that recreates the agricultural landscape of the 1700s, providing visitors with scenic walking paths such as the Cultural Trail (Kulturstigen).
