Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park is one of Norway’s most popular family destinations, a vast blend of wildlife experiences and themed attractions set in forested surroundings east of the city. The zoo is known for its spacious, naturalistic habitats, where animals from Nordic forests, African savannas and Asian jungles live in environments designed to mirror their native landscapes. Visitors can follow winding paths to encounter wolves, tigers, red pandas and a wide variety of birds and primates, making the park both educational and immersive. Alongside the zoo, the amusement park adds a playful dimension with rides, shows and themed areas inspired by Norwegian stories and characters. The combination of nature, entertainment and storytelling creates a full‑day experience that appeals to all ages. With its careful balance of conservation, learning and fun, Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park remains a defining attraction of southern Norway.
Kristiansand Norway
Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park, also called Dyreparken, is located at Dyreparkveien 1 on the eastern edge of Kristiansand, about 11 km from the city centre. Covering 150 acres of Nordic terrain, it combines a zoological garden, amusement park, and themed areas like Cardamom Town and Captain Sabertooth’s pirate village Abra Havn. The area around the park is part of Sørlandsparken, a major commercial and recreational district. Just 800 metres southeast is Sørlandshallen, a large sports and event arena used for concerts and indoor sports. Next to the park you’ll find Sørlandssenteret, one of Norway’s largest shopping centers with hundreds of stores, restaurants, and entertainment. Sørlandets Travpark, the region’s harness racing track, is also nearby, adding to the mix of family activities. Hånes Church serves the local community and sits close to residential neighborhoods like Grovikheia. The E18 highway runs past the area, making it easy to reach Kristiansand city centre and other attractions. Within the zoo itself, Badelandet water park offers indoor and outdoor pools, slides, and a “park in the park” experience that requires a separate ticket.
