Palanga Resort Museum

About

The Palanga Resort Museum, housed in the beautifully restored 19th‑century villa once owned by Count Feliksas Tiškevičius, tells the story of how a quiet coastal settlement transformed into Lithuania’s most famous seaside resort. The building itself is a highlight: a graceful wooden villa with verandas, balconies and decorative carvings typical of Palanga’s early resort architecture, giving visitors an immediate sense of the town’s historic charm. Inside, the museum traces the evolution of Palanga as a holiday destination. Exhibits showcase early spa culture, sea‑bathing traditions and the rise of wooden villas that once lined the dunes. Photographs, postcards and travel posters reveal how the resort attracted visitors from across the region, while personal belongings—swimwear, beach accessories, hotel items—bring everyday leisure life of the early 20th century into focus. One of the most interesting sections explores the Tiškevičius family’s role in shaping Palanga, from developing the park and pier to promoting cultural events that defined the town’s identity. Interactive displays and multimedia installations help visitors experience the atmosphere of historic summers, complete with music, promenades and seaside rituals.

It is located at Birutės Alley 34A, in the impressive historic Anapilis Villa, close to the city centre and the Baltic Sea coast. Nearby attractions are all within easy walking distance. Just steps away is the beautiful Palanga Botanical Park (also known as Birutė Park), a 100-hectare landscape park with around 250 imported and 370 native plant species, ponds, a rose garden, sculptures including the famous “Snake Queen,” and a rotunda. The world-famous Palanga Amber Museum is also housed within this park, in the Tiškevičiai Palace. Also close by is the lively J. Basanavičius Street, the main pedestrian street lined with cafés, restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues, leading down to Palanga’s white sandy beach and the iconic Palanga Pier, where visitors watch the famous Baltic sunsets. Other nearby attractions include Meilės Alley (Lovers’ Alley), the monument to President Antanas Smetona, Palanga Summer Park, the sculpture park, and the fragrant pine forests and rolling dunes that surround the town.
