Liberec Botanical Garden is the oldest botanical garden in the Czech Republic and one of the city’s most atmospheric cultural spaces. Its most distinctive feature is the series of interconnected greenhouses, each designed as a miniature world with its own climate. Visitors can wander from tropical rainforest to arid desert within minutes, encountering orchids, carnivorous plants, giant water lilies, and rare cycads. One of the garden’s highlights is the impressive collection of bonsai and ancient trees, some cultivated for decades. The aquarium pavilion adds another layer of discovery, showcasing colourful freshwater species and coral‑reef ecosystems. Outside, themed beds present alpine flora, medicinal plants, and species native to the Jizera Mountains. The garden is also known for its long‑running conservation work, especially with endangered orchids and tropical species. Calm, compact, and beautifully curated, it offers a peaceful escape where science, history, and nature meet.

Lidové sady Liberec is a public park and cultural centre located at 1 Lidové sady in the Liberec 1 district, right next to the main entrance of the famous Liberec Zoo. The area is known as Liberec Public Gardens and is part of the same borough as the zoo, easily reached by tram lines 2 and 3, which have a stop right outside the venue. The park is dominated by a striking 32-metre-tall brick observation tower built between 1900 and 1901 in a romantic, partly Art Nouveau style. The tower offers beautiful views over Liberec, the Ještěd ridge, and the Jizera Mountains. The building itself was originally a tourist inn with an observatory tower, constructed by textile factory owner Heinrich Liebieg using stones from demolished medieval houses in Nuremberg, giving it the appearance of a medieval castle complete with a bridge, moat, courtyard, and even a 13-metre-deep well. Today, the site houses the Kulturní centrum Lidové sady, a music and cultural-creative centre that hosts concerts, theatre performances, and social events. Nearby attractions include the Liberec Zoo, the only place in the Czech Republic to see white tigers, and its beautiful Botanical Garden with exceptional orchids. Just a short tram ride away are the historic city centre, the neo-Renaissance North Bohemian Museum, the Regional Gallery, and the striking Liberec Town Hall on the main square.
