Name of Jesus Church

Name of Jesus Church is one of Telč’s most distinctive Baroque landmarks, built in the early 17th century as part of the Jesuit college that once shaped the town’s cultural and educational life. Its elegant façade, with curved gables and sculptural decoration, reflects the confident style of the Counter‑Reformation period. An interesting fact is that the church was among the first major Baroque buildings in the region, influencing later architecture across Vysočina. Inside, the church impresses with a bright, harmonious nave filled with soft light from high windows. The main altar, dedicated to the Holy Name of Jesus, features expressive Baroque sculpture and a richly framed central painting. Side altars honour Jesuit saints, while the pulpit displays dynamic carvings typical of the order’s artistic language. Visitors can also admire the beautifully restored organ, whose warm sound enhances concerts held throughout the year. The church remains a serene reminder of the Jesuits’ lasting impact on Telč’s spiritual and cultural identity.
