Botanical Garden of Sopron is a peaceful green enclave shaped by more than a century of academic and horticultural tradition. Established by the forestry school, it reflects the region’s rich biodiversity and long connection to environmental research. The garden stretches across gently sloping terrain, where winding paths lead through themed plant collections, mature trees, and quiet study corners once used by generations of students. Inside the garden, visitors can explore an impressive arboretum featuring native Hungarian species alongside exotic trees introduced for scientific observation. Seasonal flower beds add colour throughout the year, while shaded areas reveal mosses, ferns, and woodland plants typical of the Sopron Hills. One of the most interesting features is the collection of medicinal and economically important plants, illustrating how botany supports forestry, agriculture, and traditional healing. Birdlife is abundant, making the garden a favourite spot for nature lovers seeking calm within the city. The Botanical Garden remains a living classroom and a serene retreat where Sopron’s natural heritage is preserved and celebrated.
